Workshop Brief
What the training will cover: (based on specific bully training requests from youth workers)
This hui will be facilitated by Shaun and Vicki Edwards-Brown, founders of Be The Change NZ. Both having worked in education since 1999 they established their bully prevention charity six years ago, driven by a passion for helping young people. Their strengths-based projects have been developed by youth, for youth. Be The Change NZ successfully delivers pro-social programmes to empower young people and their whānau to make connections with each other and create their own support networks as a positive alternative to bullying and the negative consequences, such as disengagement in learning, depression and abuse.
Workshop Brief

- What exactly is bullying?
- The effects of bullying.
- Key identifiers of victims, bullies and bystanders
- Bully prevention:
- Tools for groups of students that promote positive behaviour
- Tools for victims of bullying to empower them
- Tools to help redirect/stop the bullying behaviour
- Important things you need to know about the school/organization you’re work in so that there is consistency:
- Managing student behaviour policies
- The “go to” person in the school
- How the communication is shared
- Cyber-bullying – rules and tools and safe practices for young people
- Resources
