Our Work
Youth Work & Rerenga Awa Members at Public Events
Every year, our amazing Collective members volunteer to work at public events in Christchurch like Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park New Brighton Fireworks, and ASB Classical Sparks.
These events are a great opportunity for Youth Workers to make new connections, learn from others and develop their skills.
During the events, Youth Workers divide into teams and engage with young people to ensure they are safe. If a young person is in an unsafe situation, including being intoxicated or in danger, we run a tent staffed by Youth Workers which provides a safe place for young people to go.
Massive thanks to those 50+ Youth Workers who volunteer with us tirelessly each year

Special Projects - past and present
Rerenga Awa | Canterbury Youth Workers Collective a rich history, shaped by our dedicated staff, collaborators, and volunteers. While some projects have concluded, we still support others, with some evolving into independent entities. Explore our current initiatives and past projects below.
YVC is a network of young people and youth participation groups supported to have a voice and get involved in decision-making.
ReVision supports teams of young people to audit places and spaces for youth-friendliness and aids planners managers, architects, and designers in implementing Youth Relevant Design.

Strengthening the Youth Sector
The SYS Project was established after the Christchurch earthquakes to support the youth sector in Canterbury. It focused on five areas: youth participation, the Greater Christchurch Youth Charter, youth employment, building capacity in the youth sector, and creating youth-friendly spaces Although the project concluded in 2022, its vision continues through initiatives like 'Rerenga Awa,' ‘Youth Voice Canterbury,’ and ‘ReVision.’
SCOPE operated under Rerenga Awa from 2010-2018 before establishing own charitable trust. It measures organisational effectiveness in youth development, programme, governance, management, community connection, and safe practices.
The assessment focuses on how an organisation is doing in both its practice and systems. This comprehensive approach allows an organisation to focus on the key areas of improvement.
