About me:

Kia ora. My name is Phil and I bring 35 years experience in the field of youth work. This has featured mentoring; youth development, empowerment and leadership; school-based; and faith-based settings. I started what became Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Christchurch, and have led many youth based initiatives over the years. I'm curently developing some new community and school based initiatives in North Canterbury, and I'm about to join the team at the Loop Youth Centre in Papanui.

I think young people are remarkable. I love discovering their personalities, their potential and their uniqueness. I love their energy, passion and readiness to trust and build relationship. I love to empower them and help them to realise all that they are capable of being. But of course so many are hurting and struggling to navigate these very things. Youth workers have the special privilege of seeing and empowering young people’s potential, believing in them, and becoming a trusted and welcome mentor in their journey and development. Nothing beats being there when they see and believe in themselves, and find the courage and confidence to face life head on. But this can all take its toll, and throw up a host of ethical and personal challenges for youth workers. Supervision is one of the best ways to navigate this pressure and to learn to youth work better.

I am 37 years married to Carol. We have recently shifted back to Christchurch after six years in Auckland where we enjoyed living close to our three beautiful mokopuna. I embrace life, I love music, sport, exercising outdoors, and landscaping. As a supervisor I bring excellent listening skills; strengths in strategic thinking, intuition and relationship building; a high regard for the integrity of other cultures, and a genuine interest in and care for others.

Do get in touch for an initial coffee meet and greet to see if we’re a good fit for supervision: 027 223 8701 // philtrotteryouthservices@gmail.com
